Google Analytics To End Support For IE8

The Google Analytics team says it made the decision because it wants to be able to “accelerate the pace at which we can innovate new product features” and to “facilitate adoption of newer web technologies in the design of the Google Analytics product.” It’s worth noting that Analytics will continue to measure traffic from IE8.

Many think this is a wise decision to focus on more advanced, cutting edge, mass appeal browsers. They can’t keep supporting old technology that nobody is using, and let’s face it, Micrsoft is not anywhere near the forefront of browser technology.

Heading up browsers these days is Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, amongst others. Support for those browsers continues to grow.

The problem will be if you have a site with heavy IE8 traffic, you will see the loss on your stats.
