Facebook’s new Nearby Friends feature may one day be used for advertising and marketing purposes.

It seems inevitable, but Facebook’s new Nearby Friends feature, which allows users to see when their friends are nearby to arrange a meet up, will one day sell your activity to advertisers.

The new feature allows users to agreed to be seen in a locale so their friends in the area can reach out to them and meet up offline. It also allows users to follow their friends travels and suggest recommendations for places all over the world.

While no ads have been rolled out on the service just yet, a spokesperson from Facebook announced “at this time it’s not being used for advertising or marketing but in the future it will be.”

Nearby Friends is expected to be rolled out soon- will you be using it?
