Olacabs Makes Live Traffic Heatmaps In India To Solve Its Cab Problem

Getting a cab in Mumbai is not the same as it is in New York City, or any major U.S. for that matter.

It can be quite problematic to get a cab not only because of shortages but because of the traffic problem.

Unexpected traffic delays can leave people waiting minutes to hours for cabs in parts of the city. Often times people resort to their own personal drivers so they don’t have to deal with cabbies that can be unreliable or just flat out gridlocked in traffic.

Car ownership in the city stands at just 2 percent. Only the extremely wealthy are able to afford, and deal with the traffic.

At a whopping 15 million people in Mumbai, there are only 60,000 cabs around.

Rickshaws do provide another form of transportation, but with more people earning disposable income and going to business meetings, not everyone wants to travel in a rickshaw to a business meeting while wearing their fancy clothes.
